Kathiyavadi Breeding Center

Gujarat State Government’s – Animal Husbandry Department is the only state in India who runs two (2) Indigenous Horse Breeds Breeding Centers since Independence for their own native Horse Breed KATHIAWADI horses. They have around 80+ excellent bloodline Mares and Stallions in this both farms, which are located at Innaj and Hingolgadh.

Earlier during princely states Saurashtra, few of the Ruling states use to breed pure Breed Kathiawadi horses for their own use and to save this Majestic Horse Breed of India, which is responsible for improving the all other 5 horse breeds of India.

Junagadh Nawab was the pioneer in India for running such “Save the Indigenous Breeds” project and then followed by Palitana, Bhavnagar, Navanagar (now Jamnagar) respectively later on in Kathiawad regions. During Independence in 1947 Junagadh Nawab has to ‘run away’ to Pakistan due to then political disturbance created, and he abandoned his beautiful Stud Farm, which was located inside Junagadh city then. This was later taken care by the then interim Government established. This was a very planned and developed Kathiawadi Horse Breeding Center then and post independence it was visited by well-known dignitaries regularly like ‘Prince of Wales’ – Prince Philip ( he was then the President of IEF) and with him then his guide was our most Respected Shri. Raghurajsinhji.D. Jhala (Rtd. IPS) who is known as a authority on Kathiawadi Horse Breed in India.

Later around 2014, this Junagadh Stud Farm – Kathiawadi Horse Breeding Center was shifted to ‘Panchal’ region at Hingolgadh (near Jasdan in Dist: Rajkot) with all modern facilities created by the Animal Husbandry Department.

Now at Innaj ( near Somnath temple in Dist: Gir-Somnath) in 190+ acres of land Kathiawadi Horse Breeding Centers has around 40+ pure breed Kathiawadi Horses which are mostly from the old lineage since Nawab of Junagadh era is managed by the Animal Husbandry Department of Gujarat state, and this newly developed Kathiawadi Horse Breeding Center at Hingolgadh in Dist: Rajkot is in 75+ acres of land has 30+ pure breed Kathiawadi Horses under “Save the Kathiawadi Breed Horses’ project by the state government.

Vikram Stud & Agriculture Farm - VSAF

VSAF is a experimental Pure Kathiawadi Horse Breeding farm in Porbandar District. It has 20 pure breeds Kathiawadi horse's with 3 very good Stallions and 12 foundation Mares, 5 yearlings of own horse's.

Jasdan Palace Stables

Jasdan Palace Studs is one of the oldest in Saurashtra with 140 years of history. They breed Pure Kathiawadi Horse with sub breeds of 'Reddi' and 'Tajan'. Satyajit Kumar of Jasdan is a very well known For cows breeder too and very knowledgeable in Kathiawadi breed of horse's.
